Cambridge University Cycling Club - Newsletter 4

Sorry its been a while getting the first newsletter out this term, but there hasn't been all that much news...

CUPPPERS - SAT 22 FEB.

This is the important reminder. Come and support your college, and have a go at a time-trial, particularly if you haven't before. Being a 10 miler, this is the one to try.

Meet 2pm at Brookside to ride out to the course at Landbeach, or about 2:25pm (2:30pm latest) at the start. This is the same course as the Intro 10. No entry fee required, and the fastest 2 riders from each college constitute a team - however, it is an individual TT. Please note that riders *must* be a member of an RTTC affiliated club (eg CUCC) in order to ride for insurance purposes, and if not a member of CUCC should bring proof of their membership of another club.

This will also be the last selection event for the teams for the BUSA 4-up Team Time Trial. Anyone wishing to ride should make sure Tony Hornbuckle (93th@eng.cam.ac.uk) knows. We will take as many teams as there is interest. This event is 50km and takes place on 16 March.

STUDENT MTB CHAMPS - 22/23 MARCH

This is the big one for the muddy people. Entry forms now available from Jez (jpw24@cam.ac.uk), and should be returned to him by 24 Feb. 'Cos it's Huddersfield we'll have a shocker with the hills, but most of us are doing the Downhill as well for a laugh.

SOCIALS

Have been noticably low on numbers recently. Come along and say hello. We meet in the Free Press (hard to find Pub behind the Parkside Police Station - but well worth it because it is smoke free, and so clothes don't end up stinking for the next week), where we generally book the large table round the corner from 9.00.

CLUB RIDES

In case you hadn't realised, the Tuesday and Thursday rides now meet at 2.00, still at Brookside. But Saturdays stay at 1.00 (apart from next week for Cuppers).

RACE RESULTS

The BUSA Cyclo cross was the first race of it's type for, I think, all of us. But we amazingly managed to get the bronze Team medals. Until they found that we actually came fourth, and now we have to give them back! Oh well, at least we kept the beer.

ELY HARDRIDERS 25

We kicked off the first time trial of the year in grand style, with Mike "second again" Hutchinson, taking er, second, and leading us to the team prize (by 43 minutes!). Of course, having about a third of the field wasn't a disadvantage - a very good turnout.

Date: Sunday 9th February Course: B25/1 (Witchford-Chatteris-Ely A142) Conditions: Strong crosswind, slightly quicker on the way back on this phenomenally exposed course, though only due to the dog-leg...quite mild for February though.
