Well Rob was disturbingly pleased to have won the club hillclimb, the biggest event on his calender this year... Though since he pointed out that we actually gave people a bit of a push off (mainly because it was so horrible out...) which we shouldn't have done, I guess that his course record doesn't count

Well I reckon that one of the best rides was done by Robert Catherall, who rode it in jeans (wet), on a very heavy mountain bike with no toe straps / cleats! A good time considering...

So with Churchill not defending their title, and the Peterhouse dream team being scuppered by Andrew's tyre destroying itself before the start, it was left to Sidney to beat the other two teams quite convincingly. Of course, if Cliff hadn't punctured - but that's racing.

Thanks to everyone for coming out - a good turnout this year. And many thanks to Dawn and friends for time keeping despite my [Rob] confusing them by swapping numbers round a bit.

Andrew Horner was actually fastest on the day (Anglia poly - 20:24), but it was later pointed out that Anglia is not affliated to BUSA and so was not eligible to compete and so the title goes to Stuart instead

Well, CUCC men took no less than four of the top 10 places, so it's not surprising that we won the team result by a comfortable margin (over 2 minutes) from Birmingham

Respect is due to the following:

  • Joe Newman - for taking almost 3 minutes off his line 1 time to get 2nd spot on the team
  • Duncan Alexander - for riding with a broken thumb
  • Rob English - for taking 10seconds off his PB
  • Jim Henderson - for throwing a stag party the night before, and still being the fastest Oxford bloke. Also for for racing when he's supposed to be off his bike for 8 weeks after a RR crash
  • Tim Rayment - for overtraining last term and still setting a PB
  • Dave Worthington - for the 'worst excuse' award for turning up to the start over 6 minutes late and then claiming to have a different version of the start sheet. Shame, cos it would've been a good ride too.
  • Nick Smith - for dying his hair the same colour as his bike
  • Kevin Knights - for setting a new PB

      Thanks to the various marshalls who turned up to marshall, a good effort considering the earliness and the coldness of the day.

      Cambridge regained the varsity title with several very good rides from the team members [Stuart, Rob & Adam]. Joe Newman was very unlikely to puncture which meant that he was unable to finish the race when he was on course for a very good time. The women's team also took their varsity title for the first time ever - after Oxford failed to field a team.

      With Mike taking yet another medal in the nationals (although he was a little disappointed with the result as the wind was harder for him than the later starters), Stuart just missing the top 10 and Rob proving he's not just a roadie it was a very sucessful day for the Cambridge team.
