Easter weekend fun and games

Good Friday saw Pete Leek and John Earl ride the Welwyn Wheelers Hilly 30. Apparently it lives up to its name and is more than a little undulating. John clocked 1hr25 and Pete 1hr28; don't know where that put them in the field, lads?

Meanwhile Tim and Rob popped down to Poole in search of fast times in an attempt to get an entry for the National 10 mile champs. A quick course and a reasonable day, with a light headwind on the return leg:

Then Tim, Alex and Rob were supposed to ride the Swindon RC 10 the following morning. Unfortunately, Alex has been recovering from a bit of illness so sensibly didn't ride. Much tougher conditions, bitterly cold and a strong crosswind put paid to any hopes of improving on the previous days times. Rob lost interest about 3 miles in but Tim recorded a respectable 23.07 for 11th place.

Meanwhile, on the Isle of Man, Chris and Bart competed in the Spring Polaris MTB orienteering event. 7 hours of orienteering on the saturday whilst carrying equipment for a wilderness camp that night followed by a further 5 hours on the sunday (still laden!) made for a memorable event. Decent weather, if a little chilly at times, along with very dry moorland and forest track saw roughly 95 miles covered whilst grabbing controls. In the end, they came in 11th in Senior or 15th overall (150 competing).
