Robs roundup - September 2003
Alex Higham and myself headed north for the British Time Trial Champs in
Tattenhall, Cheshire on Saturday. Meanwhile Pete Leek rode the Fenland
Clarion Autumn Road Race and Michael Watt raced in the Northern Ireland
CF RR League.
BTTC: It was certainly the toughest time trial I've ever done. 32 miles
on hilly, twisty country roads in driving rain and gusty winds. All the
top British roadies and testers were there, including the likes of
Dangerfield, Hutchinson, Dawson, Winn and Newton. Alex put in what is
becoming a regulation storming performance to come a very impressive 12th
in the mens category, despite practising his cyclo-cross skills by riding
up the verge to avoid a herd of cows! I really really wanted to climb off
after the first 2 miles, but managed to summon the will to complete after
being caught by quite a few other riders and came in 26th. Chris
Brooking, riding in the Masters A category, took the victory and a
national medal and BC jersey.
I've seen Pete today and he's still glowing after his first road race win
yesterday. A long climb up to the finish suited him well and he jumped
from the pack about halfway up, caught the three riders who were 100
yards off the front and rode on to take a very well deserved win and
promotion to a 3rd cat licence. Don't know any more details, but
Michael Watt has been flying the CUCC flag back in NI and was placed 9th
on Saturday.
