Cyclocross races usually last one hour and take place on short courses which are fairly untechnical apart from some obstacles, such as hurdles, designed to force riders to get off and run carrying their bikes. A cyclocross bike is basically a road bike with knobbly tyres and features such as cantilever breaks to help improve mud clearance. These are lighter and have larger frames than mountain bikes, making them easier to carry but most cyclocross races allow riders on mountain bikes to enter too.

There are many local cyclocross events which CUCC riders can enter with the most important being the British Universities and Colleges cyclocross race.
