CAMBRIDGE win Varsity match 10 points to 12

DOWNING convincingly thrash everyone in cuppers...!

This'll be quite short and sweet due to the fact its half two now...
13 of us cruised up to London tonight to meet the Dark side at the Beastway circuit in N. London. 2 cars and a big red comedy postal van left Cambridge at 16:45 and got there with ample time to meet the opposition and have a pre ride. The pre-ride was as usual an invaluable part of the race since it allowed those mechanicals to manifest themselves and be fixed (apart from Matt's blown wheel.... unlucky...) and also for one of our number to inspect the track at close quarters and make a rather bloody mess of his knee.
racing in our own class, Grand Veteran Women (!), we had 50mins + 1 lap format to the race. The start whistle saw Andrew (Cockburn) burn off into the wide blue yonder, not to be seen again until the finish! The rest of us raced around the swoopy, bermy, fast course trying our best to battle our way through some of the more congested parts. Sadly Tim (Short) had to pull out with a knee injury.
The rest is a bit of a blur, consisiting mostly of dust and spurious calls of people overtaking, with the odd stack mixed in for good measure.
Counting the top 3 riders positions from each team put Cambridge in a winning positon.
In traditional format we all adjourned to the curry shop afterwards.
Well done to all who raced, Great to see such a turnout.
Thanks to Jon for organising it all and getting the prizes from Haywards to Danni and Si for driving to Oxford CC for a great race to the curry shop in Cockfosters for afters!
